Logs and errors
The Logs and errors page collects the script errors and console messages that Strabber records on your website, from all sessions, in one list. Use it to spot errors your visitors run into, see how often they happen and in which browsers, and jump to the recording to see what the visitor did just before.
What gets logged
Strabber records six types of entries:
- Script error: an error thrown by JavaScript on your page.
- Error message: output of
console.error(). - Log message: output of
console.log(). - Info message: output of
console.info(). - Debug message: output of
console.debug(). - Warning message: output of
console.warn().
Each type can be turned on or off in the capture settings. Entries are recorded together with sessions, so a page has to be recorded for its errors to appear here.
The logs table
The list shows the newest entries first. Each row shows:
- A blue dot if you haven't viewed the entry yet. Click the dot to mark the entry as viewed.
- A view button that opens the entry's details, and a play button that opens the recording where it happened. If the recording has been deleted, the play button is greyed out.
- The Date and Type of the entry.
- Tags you've added.
- The Message.
You can also show the User, UUID, Page, Location (country, city and IP address), ISP, File, Line, Column and Environment (browser, operating system and device). To choose the columns, click Columns above the table and check or uncheck them. Your choice is saved to your account.
To sort the table, click a column header. Date, Type, UUID, Page, ISP, File, Line and Column can be sorted.
View an entry
Click the view button or the arrow next to the message to open the entry's details on the right. Opening an entry marks it as viewed. The details show:
- The date, the entry's ID, the page it happened on and, for script errors, the file, line and column.
- The full message. Messages that contain JSON are shown formatted.
- The visitor's IP address, country, city and ISP.
- The browser, operating system, device and user agent.
Below the message, you can Copy to clipboard, Search in Google or Ask ChatGPT about it.
Search logs
When no filters are applied, a search box appears above the table. The search looks through the message, page URL, script URL, user identifier, UUID and user agent.
Filter logs
Click Filters above the table to open the filter panel. Filters are grouped by what they describe:
- Log entry: tag, dates, page URL, log type, log message, script URL, code line and code column.
- User: UUID, user identifier and user name.
- Environment: browser name and version, OS name and version, device and user agent.
- Location: country, city, ISP and IP address.
Filters work the same way as on the recordings page: you can combine them with and or or, group them into scopes and save the ones you use often. See Filter recordings for details.
Filter from the table
Click a value in the table, such as the type, message, page, file, browser or country. A menu opens with two groups:
- Logs where… filters this list, for example to show only entries that are, or aren't, equal to that value. For the message you can also choose Contains or Doesn't contain.
- Recordings where… opens the recordings list filtered by the same value, so you can watch every session where this error happened.
Other controls
The controls above the table also let you:
- Click Refresh to load new entries.
- Choose how many rows to show on each page: 10, 25, 50, 100, 150 or 200.
Work with several entries
Select entries with the checkboxes, or use the checkbox in the header to select all of them on the page. You can then:
- Add tags, for example to mark errors you've fixed or are working on.
- Delete selected
The ⋯ menu at the end of a row has two more options:
- Delete removes that entry.
- Delete all similar errors removes every entry on the site with the same type and message, for example all repeats of an error you've fixed.
The ⋯ menu at the top right of the table has actions that apply to every entry on the site:
- Mark all as viewed
- Delete all logs
- Delete all script errors, or all Error, Log, Info, Warn or Debug messages
Deleting logs can't be undone. It doesn't delete the recordings the entries came from.
