Capture settings

Updated

Capture settings control what Strabber records on your website. To open them, go to Settings and click Video capture under Video recording, or click Capture settings at the top of the recordings list.

Settings apply to the current website. If you have more than one website in Strabber, configure each one separately.

Changes are saved automatically as soon as you make them.

Video capture

Video capture status

Turns recording on or off for the whole website. When capture is off, Strabber stops recording sessions and only collects visit statistics.

Recording mode

Decides which sessions Strabber records:

  • Maximum traffic coverage: records as many sessions as your plan allows.
  • Use limits: stops recording when a daily, weekly or monthly limit you set is reached.
  • Use schedule: records only on the days of the week you choose.
  • Use limits and schedule: applies both.

Click Configure limits and schedule to set the limits and the schedule (see Limits and schedule). Limits are useful for spreading your plan's sessions over the month instead of using them all at once.

General settings

Minimum duration

Strabber only saves sessions that last longer than this. Very short sessions, such as a visitor who leaves right away, rarely show anything useful. You can choose from 1 to 30 seconds. The default is 2 seconds.

Privacy

Turn on privacy to help comply with GDPR. When privacy is on, visitors' IP addresses, locations and ISPs aren't displayed in Strabber.

SPA route tracking

Turn this on if your website is a single-page application (SPA), such as one built with React, Vue or Angular. Each route change is then treated as a new page view, so the pages a visitor moves between show up as separate pages in recordings. It's off by default.

Page events

Choose which visitor actions are recorded:

  • Record mouse clicks: mouse down and mouse up events.
  • Record mouse movements: mouse move events.
  • Record keystrokes: key down and key up events.

All three are on by default. If you turn one off, those actions won't appear in the replay.

Timeout settings

New session timeout

If a visitor comes back after being away for longer than this, their visit is recorded as a new session. You can choose from 2 to 60 minutes. The default is 10 minutes.

Disconnect timeout

If a visitor is inactive for longer than this, the recording stops. You can choose from 2 to 60 minutes. The default is 10 minutes.

Script errors and console

Choose which errors and console messages are recorded with each session:

  • Script errors: errors thrown by JavaScript on your pages.
  • Error messages: output of console.error().
  • Log messages: output of console.log().
  • Info messages: output of console.info().
  • Debug messages: output of console.debug().
  • Warning messages: output of console.warn().

All of them are on by default. What's recorded here appears in the console when you review a recording, and can be used to filter recordings in the recordings list.

If your website logs a lot of debug or log messages, turning those off keeps the console focused on errors and warnings.
